Central Cornwall PCT - Eldercare Project in Cornwall (EPIC) The
Eldercare Project in Cornwall (EPIC) is a new county-wide preventative nursing
service which will provide assessment and intensive case management to elderly
patients who are at risk of unplanned hospitalisation.

Partnerships NHS Trust - Health and Social Care Trust The Local Health
Partnerships NHS Trust has become a Health and Social Care Trust, and is now
called the Suffolk Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust.

Birmingham PCT - Mental Health A team of mental health professionals,
led by a consultant psychiatrist, is holding regular sessions at two GP
surgeries in an attempt to provide faster access to counselling for patients
and combat the problem of over-prescription of antidepressants.
Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust - CHD Asian Link Nurse The
work of the CHD Asian Link Nurse was highlighted at a recent SHA event
highlighting Best Practice. The incidence of CHD in the Asian community is
high, and attendance rates at assessment and review clinics has now greatly
increased.
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust - Antithrombotic
Study Doctors at Northern General Hospital are undertaking a rapid
blood monitoring study for patients who have been admitted with unstable angina
or myocardial infarction. The aim is to identify safer, more effective ways of
combining antithrombotic drugs.

Blaenau Gwent LHB - UK Diabetes Week Nurses from Blaenau
Gwent LHB and Diabetes Specialist Nurses from Nevill Hall Hospital will be
supporting an annual public awareness raising campaign, spearheaded by Diabetes
UK, during National Diabetes Week from 13th 19th June 2004.
Europe backs Welsh success in teen smoking cessation work The Welsh
Assembly Government has won funding worth £221,000 from Europe to
co-ordinate a Europe-wide adolescent smoking cessation programme.
Neath Port Talbot LHB - Palliative Care Bro Morgannwg NHS Trust and
Neath Port Talbot Local Health Board (LHB) have announced the opening of 6 beds
at Cimla Hospital, for patients requiring palliative care.
Pembrokeshire and Derwen NHS Trust - New HSDU Development The
recently refurbished hospital and sterilisation unit has been officially opened
at Bronglais Hospital by Jane Hutt, Health and Social Services Minister.
Pontypridd and Rhondda NHS Trust - Mental Health Unit A new
£15m Mental Health Unit has been opened at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.
It will provide acute adult mental health services, outpatient and day hospital
facilities (87 beds). There are 2 ten-place satellite units at Trealaw and
Pontypridd.
Powys LHB - Minor Injuries Units Powys Local
Health Board has unveiled plans for a modernised minor injuries service, as
part of a wide-ranging review into how best to provide efficient and effective
healthcare services in a large rural area. [

The
Bronllys Pain Management Centre, part of Powys Local Health Board has
launched its new website today.

Midlothian LHCC - Primary Care Pharmacist Fiona Reid, a
primary care pharmacist for cardiovascular disease at Newbyres Medical Group in
Gorebridge, became the first pharmacist in the UK to write a prescription for
use in primary care last month. Her first prescription was for a statin.
NHS Grampian - Community Health Partnerships Community
Health Partnerships have replaced LHCCs in NHS Grampian.

Eastern H and SS Board - Out of Hours
Services The Eastern H and SS Board has approved a major public
consultation between now and 6th August 2004 on new plans to develop GP Out of
Hours Services.
Northern H and SSB - Spirometry Training
Over 60 Practice Nurses and Nurse Practitioners from across the Northern Health
and Social Services Board area have attended training courses on spirometry, a
method used to measure lung function in people with chronic breathing
problems.
